DALLAS, TEXAS - The UT Tyler volleyball team earned a straight-set victory over UT Dallas on Saturday, improving to 11-2 overall and 2-1 in Lone Star Conference play.
The Patriots set the tone from the opening set, using an efficient offensive attack to take control early. UT Tyler recorded 13 kills with just two errors on 29 attacks in the opening frame, hitting .379 as a team. The Patriots also held UT Dallas to a .226 hitting percentage while building an early advantage.
UT Tyler continued its strong offensive performance in the second set, recording 15 kills and just three errors on 44 attacks to hit .273. UT Dallas matched the Patriots with 18 kills in the frame but UT Tyler limited the Comets to a .185 hitting percentage. UT Tyler's defensive effort helped maintain its advantage as the Patriots collected 52 digs throughout the entire match.
The Patriots closed out the sweep with 13 kills in the third set while holding UT Dallas to just a .050 hitting percentage. Despite hitting .154 in the final frame, UT Tyler's defense helped secure the match as the Patriots held the Comets to 10 kills and eight errors on 40 attacks.
UT Tyler finished the match with 41 kills and a .259 hitting percentage, while UT Dallas hit .152 with 40 kills. The Patriots also held advantages in aces, 4-3, blocks, 6-1, assists, 40-36, and digs, 52-47.
Maya Jones led the Patriots with 10 kills, while Autumn Perry and Sydney Atkinson each added nine. Perry was particularly efficient offensively, recording nine kills with just one error on 17 attacks to hit .471. Atkinson added nine kills on a .286 hitting percentage, while Kailey Manes recorded six kills without committing an attack error and hit .600.
Anna Arceneaux led the Patriots defensively with 15 digs, while Makhai Lewis added 9. UT Tyler's defensive presence at the net also played a key role in the sweep as the Patriots finished with six total blocks compared to one for UT Dallas.
The victory gives UT Tyler their 11th win of the season and sends the Patriots home for the first time all season. UT Tyler will open its home schedule Wednesday when it hosts St. Edward's in Lone Star Conference play. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Louise Herrington Patriot Center.
