DALLAS, Texas – The UT Tyler women's golf program made a move up the leaderboard during the final round of the DBU Women's Classic, turning in its best score of the tournament to finish fifth overall at +38 (902).
UT Tyler's strong final surge was led by
Emmerson Doyle, who posted the team's best individual finish tied for eighth. Doyle finished the two day tourney with scores of 76-72-74 which was six-over par (221).
Ava Murcer and
Laura Goetz both made the biggest jump on the individual leaderboards, improving by double digits. Murcer shot a final-round score of -1 (71) as the sophomore moved 12 spots up on the leaderboard to finish tied for 16
th. Her closing round was highlighted by birdies on holes 10 and 16 as she became one of only a handful of players for UT Tyler to finish under par on day two.
The other Patriot that ended her tournament with a round under par, was Goetz, who made an 18 spot improvement on day two. She tied Murcer with a score of -1 (71) and was able to pick up four birdies in her last round.
Lindsey Li delivered one of the Patriots' most consistent performances of the tournament. The UT Tyler Junior opened with two straight rounds of 78 before shooting +9(81) in the closing round. That would help her finish the tourney tied for 45th.
Abigail McWilliams ended the event strong with a final round score of 76. She shot +10 overall (232) and was tied for 31st.
As a team, the Patriots proved to be one of the most balanced teams in the tournament. UT Tyler ranked third in par 3 scoring, while placing fifth in par 4 and par 5 scoring. They also added 36 birdies which would secure them in the top 5 overall.
The Patriots will return to the course on Oct. 3rd-4th when they take part in the NCAA Division II National Preview at Mission Resort and Club in Lake County, Florida.
