2019: Became the program’s all-time saves leader with 12 saves in 61 career relief appearances… Named to the All-ASC third team as a 2019 junior, tying the school single-season record for saves with 5 for the second straight year while finishing with a 1.51 ERA in 37 innings across 20 relief appearances… Posted a 3-0 record with 5 saves, scattering 9 runs (8 earned) on 30 hits with 12 walks and 13 strikeouts… Held opposing hitters to a .219 batting average and was the only Patriots’ pitcher who did not give up a home run in 2019… Collected ASC All-Academic Team honors for the second consecutive season.
2018: Making 24 relief appearances as a sophomore, Leal finished the season with a 5-1 record and an ERA of 1.95. Her 50.1 innings of work included five saves and 26 strikeouts. Her save total broke the UT Tyler single season saves record that had stood at four since 2013. At the NCAA Tyler Super Regional, Leal was named the Most Outstanding Pitcher after pitching six innings allowing just two hits and no runs en route to a win and a save. She was also named to the ASC All-Academic Team at the end of the season.
2017: Leal made 19 appearances during her first season at UT Tyler getting the start in two contests. She finished the season with a 6-2 record and a 2.73 ERA while also picking up a pair of saves. Over 51.1 innings pitched, Leal struck out 29 batters. Leal was also named an NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete at the end of the season.
Leal is the daughter of Maria and Enrique and a sister to Christian. She played her high school softball at St. Anthony Catholic under head coach Paul Greco.
PERSONAL: Leal is studying Nursing and plans to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. She chose UT Tyler for the opportunity to join a great nursing program while playing the sport she loves on a team full of winning traditions and high standards. She loves the small school, big family atmosphere.
