Mychele Hughes began service as the newly appointed Special Assistant to the Athletic Director in the Winter of 2019 and just finished her 10th year with UT Tyler during the 2023-2024 academic year.

She oversees budget and administrative operations of the Department and returned to UT Tyler in the Fall of 2014 as the Senior Administrative Associate for the Vice President of Student Affairs.

She works with the UT Tyler Center for Ethics on the Emerging Leaders Program and UT Tyler High School Ethics Bowl; both programs provide opportunities for connections with local high schools. She holds a Master's in Public Planning and Administration from The University of Texas at Tyler and an undergraduate degree in government from The University of Texas in Austin. 

Before returning to her alma mater, UT Tyler, Mychele worked in higher education and K-12 public school administration as a Director of Information Services and Director of Community and Corporate Development. She taught government as an adjunct professor for almost ten years at Texarkana College.

Mychele began public service in the President’s Office of MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, worked in the Texas Senate, worked on various state and local ballot initiatives, and worked for the President of Edison College as the Director of Information Services. She held local elected office and served on the City Council for the Township of Riverside, Ohio.

Mychele is a Junior Statesmen Fellow, Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, and received the Rotary Four Avenues of Service Citation for her work and leadership of the West Bowie County Rotary Club. Mychele has devoted much of her career and volunteer efforts to teaching high school students, emphasizing leadership development, global cultural understanding through exchange programs for both students and adults, and promoting civic engagement and civil discourse.
