Robert Serra joined the UT Tyler men’s soccer staff in the Spring of 2026 and will take on his first season with the program this fall.

Serra joins the program after a one year stint with Slippery Rock University and a two year stint with LSC foe St. Mary’s University.

In both previous positions he served primarily as a goalkeepers coach while helping oversee the final defensive third.

While at The Rock, Serra helped the team go 7-7-3 to narrowly miss the conference tournament. He also helped coach Colton Spence, who was named All-Atlantic Region in 2025 for his efforts on the defensive end.

Serra served with the Rattlers from 2023-2024, helping guide the team to the 2024 Lone Star Conference championship and LSC Tournament appearances in both seasons. They went a combined 20-9-10 in those two years.

He played a vital role in coaching Luke Mulkey, the 2024 LSC Defender of the Year, and Johnny Thurbin, the 2024 LSC Goalkeeper of the Year. Additionally, Thurbin would go on to receive consensus First Team All-South Central Region honors.

Serra has also spent time coaching at the club and high school soccer levels, serving as an Area Director for i9 Sports and a college liaison for Premier FA, a club team in San Antonio, Texas.

He is a native of San Antonio, Texas and received his bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Texas State in 2018 and his Master of Business Administration from St. Mary’s in 2024. He is joined in Tyler by his wife Adriana and their daughter, Phoenix.
