THE HOME OF UT TYLER ATHLETICS

Taylor White

White recently completed his fifth season with UT Tyler in 2022-2023 after being hired by Head Baseball Coach Brent Porche in August of 2018 following the Patriots 2018 National Championship run.

White serves as the Associate Head Coach (Infielders, Hitters, and Baserunners) and Recruiting Coordinator for UT Tyler. White was the Recruiting Coordinator for the 2019 class that was named a Top 50 JUCO Recruiting Class by the JUCO Baseball Blog in June of 2019. UT Tyler was just one of four non NCAA Division I programs named in the Top 50 JUCO recruiting classes of 2019. The class was ranked 46th in all of NCAA Baseball, and ranked 2nd amongst all Division II programs. In 2021, White was a major factor in bringing to UT Tyler the number one JUCO Recruiting Class among Lone Star Conference teams, a class that also ranked 4th among all Division II programs. In 2022, White orchestrated the #1 Division II recruiting class in the state of Texas, and that class ranked #16 in all of Division II baseball.

Head coach Brent Porche on the impact from Coach White, “Coach White has been a tremendous asset to our success in the Division II era here at UT Tyler.  He is one of the best recruiters in the state of Texas and in Division II baseball.  We would not be where we are as a program today without his hard work and dedication to the program and individual player success.”

Previously, White served as the Assistant Baseball Coach at Tyler Junior College. During his time with the Apaches, the baseball program won two national titles in three NJCAA Div. III World Series appearances with the third appearance being a runner-up finish. After the 2018 season, White was named the ABCA National Assistant Coach of the Year for junior college baseball. White also coached three NJCAA/Rawlings National Players of the Year (Taylor Broadway, Jonathan Groff, Jace Vines) while with the Apaches.

Coach White has also had a significant role in developing the talented players that he has coached. He has coached a total of 17 players that have gone on to play professional baseball during his nine total years of experience. At Tyler Junior College, White coached Jace Vines (4th Round pick) and Taylor Broadway (6th Round) who both are making significant impacts on their respective Minor League programs. Among those players that went on to play professional baseball, White has also coached 13 All-Americans and 11 Academic All-Americans. Three more players (Mason Mallard, Matt Mikusek, Aaron Clemons) have each collected an ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award under White's tutorship.

White's first recruiting class at UT Tyler came in 2019, and those players played a significant role in leading the Patriots to a 20-3 record, 1st place in the Lone Star Conference and being ranked 11th in the country before the COVID-19 pandemic struck. In the 2021 season, the Patriots reached a ranking of #10 and spent the majority of the season in the top 25 while placing 4th overall in the final Lone Star Conference regular season standings. The 2022 Patriots finished 4th overall in the Lone Star Conference and were receiving votes in the final top 25 poll of the season.

In 2023, a tremendous recruiting class combined with big-time development led the Patriots to their best season of the Division II era and their best season overall since 2018. The Patriots finished the year 39-19, third in the LSC standings, and went on to make the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament before falling in the region one championship game.

Under White's mentorship at UT Tyler, several players have gone down in the program record book. Players and teams coached by White hold the career record for stolen bases, highest batting average in a season, most stolen bases in a season, the team record for most stolen bases in a game, the team record for highest stolen base percentage in a season, the most RBI in a season, most hits, most runs, and most total bases in a season.

Porche commented at the time of hire, "We are extremely excited to have coach White on our staff. We believe we can be one of the premier programs in the country, in Division II, and can attract top talent. Coach White shares that vision and more importantly cares about his players above all else. We are proud he is a Patriot and excited for our future with him in our dugout"

As a player, White was a 4-time high school all-state shortstop at Fort Bend Baptist Academy in Sugar Land, Texas. In 2008, White was named a Rawlings Preseason All-American. Additionally in high school, he was an all-state selection in football and the player of the year in his district. After his 2008 year, White was named the TAPPS 5A Male Athlete of the Year for his accomplishments in football and baseball.

In college, White played for the University of Houston, where as a true freshman started all but one game at second base while batting .292. He finished his 4-year career hitting .273 with a fielding percentage of .956 while also playing games at every position except catcher, pitcher, and center field.
