TYLER, Texas - The UT Tyler Men's Soccer team hosted Sul Ross State at the Citizen's 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex on Thursday night. UT Tyler defeated Sul Ross 1-0, improving to 9-1-1 overall.
Just two days removed from moving six spots up in the United Soccer Coach's Poll to #19, the Patriots flexed their defensive muscle in a 1-0 win over the Lobos.
Giancarlo Ayanegui took to the net for the Patriots, posting a shutout in his second start of the season. Ayanegui stopped the only shot on goal from Sul Ross on Thursday night.
The Patriot defense held the Lobos to just one shot on goal and seven shots total on Thursday night.
The UT Tyler offense put up 26 shots with 10 of those shots being on goal.
Lucas Pereira would pick up his eighth goal of the season and his fourth game-winner of the year. Early in the 28th minute of play, Pereira broke away from the Lobo defenders, netting a goal from 15 yards out.
Pereira's goal would be all the Patriots needed as they improved to 9-1-1 on the season.
On the season, UT Tyler has posted seven shutouts and outscored opponents 20-6.
UT Tyler plays their next game on October 11 in Longview, Texas. The Thursday night matchup against LeTourneau University is scheduled to kick-off at 7:30 p.m.
