Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Patriots Down Lady Lobos behind Two Goals from West

TYLER, Texas - The UT Tyler Women's Soccer team hosted Sul Ross State at The Citizen's 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex on Thursday night. UT Tyler downed the Lady Lobos 3-2, improving to 7-2-1 overall.

A free-kick goal in the second minute of play put the Patriots in an early 0-1 hole.

After playing down a goal for 29 minutes, Kaycee West netted her first goal of the season on a one-on-one opportunity. West worked around a pair of defenders before taking a shot from 12 yards out. West's placed her shot outside the reach of the keeper, evening the game at one.

The Lady Lobos answered the game-tying goal with a 35th minute goal, taking a 2-1 lead into the half.

The Patriots came out of the gate with a goal five minutes into the second half. Once again, trailing by a goal Kaycee West would even the game. West buried her second goal of the season and game off a corner kick from Kiersten Ehler. Ehler played a ball to the far side of the box which West would redirect into the back of net, knotting the game at two.

Seven minutes later the Patriots would pull ahead for the first time in Thursday night's matchup. Freshman Carrie Gilliand would net her first collegiate goal after beating a pair of Lady Lobos, taking a shot from eight yards out. Gilliand's first career goal was all the Patriots would need, holding the Lady Lobos at bay for the remainder of regulation.

UT Tyler put up 20 shots to the Lady Lobos 13. The Patriots would also hold a strong 9-3 advantage in corner kicks in the win.

The Patriots are off until next Thursday when they take on LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas. The October 11 game is scheduled to kick off at 5:00 p.m.
