Patriots Fall to Whitworth in 70-74 Battle in Washington

Box Score SPOKANE, Washington - The UT Tyler Women's Basketball team played their second game in the Whitworth College Basketball Tournament on Saturday night. The Patriots fell to host, Whitworth 70-74. 

FIRST QUARTER:
The Patriots came out of the gate strong in Saturday's matchup, putting up 23 points in the first 10 minutes of play. UT Tyler would hold a two-point advantage after holding Whitworth to 21 points. 

SECOND QUARTER:
UT Tyler and Whitworth would combine for 29 points in the second quarter. The Patriots would score 12 points while Whitworth erased their deficit by scoring 17 in the second. After 20 minutes of play, UT Tyler trailed by three points. 

THIRD QUARTER:
A tight third quarter saw Whitworth and UT Tyler trade runs before combining for 33 points. UT Tyler put up 16 in the third while Whitworth put up 17. Through 30 minutes of play, the Patriots trailed by just four points. 

FOURTH QUARTER:
The final 10 minutes of regulation saw UT Tyler and Whitworth play to a 19-19 stalemate. Despite putting up their second best offensive quarter of the night, UT Tyler would not be able to erase the deficit, falling 70-74. 

UT TYLER LEADERS:
Carissa Spiker led the Patriots on offense, scoring 23 points. Spiker would record a double-double, recording 12 rebounds, a team-high. Samantha Odom put up 10 points in the loss.
