SEGUIN, Texas - The UT Tyler Women's Basketball team opened their week of play with a matchup against Texas Lutheran on Wednesday night. The Patriots defeated the Bulldogs 66-56, improving to 2-3 overall.
FIRST QUARTER:
The Patriots and Bulldogs combined for 34 points in the first 10 minutes of action in Wednesday's matchup. UT Tyler opened the game on a 5-0 run which they held for the first 3:28 of play.
TLU would come back to take the the lead with 6:32 remaining, stretching the lead to seven with :36 remaining. A three with :11 left from
Breana Powell brought the game within four.
SECOND QUARTER:
After falling behind late in the first quarter, UT Tyler would step up defensively, holding TLU to just eight points in the second. The defensive pressure allowed the Patriots to tie the game with five minutes remaining in the half. The teams would trade leads through the final 4:45 of play before a three from
Jolee Carswell put UT Tyler ahead 28-27 going into the half.
THIRD QUARTER:
UT Tyler came out of the gate strong in the third quarter, matching TLU's 19-point first quarter performance. While UT Tyler put up 19, the Patriots held TLU to just 13 points, stretching their lead from one to seven heading into the final quarter of play.
FOURTH QUARTER:
The final quarter of play saw UT Tyler put up 19 points for the second straight half. The Bulldogs put up 16 points, cutting the Patriot lead to six at its closest point. The second half surge powered UT Tyler to their second straight win, defeating the Bulldogs 66-56.
Carissa Spiker led the team with 27 points, a game high for either team.
Tyreesha Blaylock pulled in a team-high seven rebounds.
