BROWNWOOD, Texas - The UT Tyler Men's Soccer team opened their week of play with a matchup against Howard Payne University. The Patriots defeated the Yellow Jackets, moving to 4-1 on the 2018 season.
Thursday's win moves to UT Tyler to 4-1 overall after winning four straight games since opening night in Wichita Falls.
A hot start led UT Tyler to thw win, netting three goals in the first half. Each goal came from a different Patriot en-route to the victory.
Caio Godhino opened the scoring with a 19th minute goal off the foot of
Erik Macias to give the Patriots a 1-0 advantage.
Less than two minutes later
Travis Collins played a ball to
Walter Castro who netted the second UT Tyler goal of the afternoon. After 22 minutes, the Patriots held a 2-0 lead.
Jose Poo netted the Patriots third goal of the day on an unassisted opportunity in the 44th minute. Poo fired a shot from the middle of the box into the left side of the net to give UT Tyler a 3-0 advantage at the half.
The Patriot defense held HPU to just five shots on Thursday with three being on goal.
Parker O'Quinn and
Giancarlo Ayanegui would combine for the shutout.
Over the past four games, UT Tyler has outscored opponents 9-1.
The Patriots play their next game in Richardson, Texas on Saturday, September 15. UT Tyler will take on UT Dallas at 7:30 p.m.
