SAN ANGELO, Texas -- UT Tyler erased a 1-0 halftime deficit with Ashleigh Ackroyd's equalizer early in the second half, but Angelo State produced one more goal in the 66th minute to hold off the Patriots for a 2-1 Lone Star Conference win Saturday afternoon.
With the defeat, UT Tyler falls to 3-10 overall and 1-8 in Lone Star Conference play, while Angelo State remains near the top of the league standings in a tie for third place at 11-3-1 overall and 7-2-1 in the LSC.
How It Happened: Junior goalkeeper Maya Dossing made a pair of saves early in the first half, keeping Angelo State's aggressive attack off the scoreboard until Cassidy Hill broke through with a goal in the 15th minute, using an assist from Kiah Benham to provide the Rambelles with an early advantage.
The teams combined for 20 first-half shots, but the 1-0 score held up through halftime as both goalkeepers made four first-half saves.
Ashleigh Ackroyd scored her second goal of the season within the first 10 minutes of the second half, tying the game at 1-1 with her goal in the 53rd minute, but Chloe Souza found the back of the net with an assist from Trenadey Scott for the 66th-minute game-winner.
By The Numbers: UT Tyler recorded its second-highest shots on goal total and third-highest total shots in a Lone Star Conference game, putting seven of its 14 shots on goal… Angelo State finished with a 16-14 edge in total shots… The Rambelles also edged UT Tyler in corner kicks (3-2) and fouls (12-4)... Ackroyd's goal was her first since she scored in the opening minute of the season opener… Nine different players recorded a shot for UT Tyler, led by three shots each for Kiara Rolen and Kaycee West… Maya Dossing recorded a season-high five saves in her second start, and third overall appearance, of the season.
What's Next: UT Tyler has four games left in the regular season, hosting a pair of Lone Star Conference contests next week against Texas A&M International (Oct. 31) and St. Mary's (Nov. 2) before wrapping up the season on the road against Oklahoma Christian (Nov. 7) and Midwestern State (Nov. 9).
