TYLER, Texas -- With a pair of second-half penalty shots from Maren Moore and Mariah Harmon, UT Tyler claimed its second Lone Star Conference victory of the season by posting a 2-0 shutout over Texas A&M International Thursday evening.
The Patriots controlled play throughout most of the game, producing a 21-9 edge in shots while controlling 60 percent of the possession.
With the victory, UT Tyler improves to 4-10 overall and 2-8 in Lone Star Conference play, collecting its first conference win since defeating UT Permian Basin in the LSC opener. The Patriots jumped two spots ahead in the league standings with the win, climbing ahead of UT Permian Basin and Texas A&M International, which fell to 2-10-2 overall and 1-7-2 in the LSC.
How It Happened: Neither team scored in the first half, although UT Tyler produced plenty of scoring chances with an 11-2 advantage in shots. The Patriots broke through in the second half, earning a penalty kick after Texas A&M International committed a foul in the penalty area as UT Tyler continued its persistent attack.
Maren Moore converted the penalty, giving UT Tyler a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute. Just over 10 minutes later, the Patriots got another penalty opportunity after another foul in the box, and Mariah Harmon converted again for a 2-0 lead in the 72nd minute.
Goalkeeper Maya Dossing registered a save on Texas A&M International's final shot on goal in the 74th minute, and UT Tyler kept the pressure on with five more shots in the final 15 minutes of the game. Dossing finished with four saves to register her first cleansheet of the season after posting four shutouts last year.
By The Numbers: UT Tyler's 21-shot total was a new Lone Star Conference-high, and it was its highest single-game shot total since firing 24 shots against LSU Shreveport in the season opener… Maren Moore's goal was her first of the season, making her the 10th different Patriot to score a goal this year… Mariah Harmon scored her fourth goal of the year and the 11th of her career… Harmon's career totals of 11 goals and 8 assists give her 30 career points… UT Tyler finished with a 2-1 edge in corner kicks… Texas A&M International goalkeeper E;ema Rivera made seven saves.
