TYLER, Texas -- Kaycee West scored a pair of second-half goals to break a scoreless tie, lifting UT Tyler to a 2-0 Senior Day win over St. Mary's Saturday afternoon. West, a junior forward, scored an unassisted goal with less than 12 minutes left in regulation, and she added an insurance goal less than four minutes later with an assist from junior defender Maren Moore, securing a win after the Patriots honored a 9-player senior class in a pregame ceremony.
With a pair of 2-0 victories this week, the Patriots now have their first Lone Star Conference winning streak, moving into a three-way tie for ninth in the conference standings with two games left in the season.
UT Tyler is now 5-10 overall and 3-8 in Lone Star Conference play, tying St. Mary's and Midwestern State with 9 points for ninth in the conference standings. St. Mary's falls to 5-11 overall and 3-8 in LSC play.
How It Happened: UT Tyler produced an 11-2 advantage in shots in a scoreless first half, including six shots on goal, but St. Mary's goalkeeper Erin Longford stopped them all to keep the game tied at 0-0 through the opening 45 minutes.
The Rattlers opened the second half with four shots in the first 10 minutes, but UT Tyler turned away the St. Mary's attack each time before building up to West's 79th-minute goal. West added another shot 30 seconds later, missing wide to the right side of the goal, but she was on target again in the 83rd minute, as Maren Moore set up the insurance goal that made it 2-0.
Goalkeeper Camri Cecil made four second-half saves to preserve the combined shutout with Maya Dossing, who played the entire first half.
By The Numbers: The shutout was UT Tyler's fifth of the season and first consecutive shutouts this season… All three of the Patriots' Lone Star Conference victories have been shutouts… Kaycee West led all attackers with four shots, putting three of them on goal while moving into a tie with Mariah Harmon for the team scoring lead with 4 goals… West has registered two-goal games three times in her career, doing so once each year of her three-year career so far… Each team finished with one corner kick… UT Tyler generated an 18-10 edge in total shots with an 11-5 margin in shots on goal… The 11 shots on goal represented the Patriots' highest total in a Lone Star Conference game… Twelve different Patriots registered a shot.
Honoring Seniors: UT Tyler honored a nine-player senior class, its first senior class to play in Division II and the Lone Star Conference. The 2019 senior class included: Ashleigh Ackroyd, Liz Clore, Mariah Harmon, Willow Herndon, Ashton Peeks, Taylor Peimbert, Miranda Reyna, Justice Robinson, and Bailey Wooten.
