OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- UT Tyler scored twice in the first half and added a second-half insurance goal before lightning ended Wednesday's 3-0 road win at Oklahoma Christian in the 75th minute, extending the Patriots' first Lone Star Conference winning streak to three games, all shutouts.
Ashleigh Ackroyd scored her third goal of the season in the 20th minute, the second time this season she's delivered the game-winning goal, and Landri Edwards and Gabi Garcia each scored their first goal of the season to give the Patriots their largest margin of victory in Lone Star Conference play with the 3-0 win.
With the victory, UT Tyler improves to 6-10 overall and 4-8 in Lone Star Conference play, collecting three more points in the conference standings to rise to a tie for eighth with Eastern New Mexico at 12 points. Oklahoma Christian falls to 2-15 overall and 2-10 in LSC play.
How It Happened: UT Tyler finished with a 15-7 edge in total shots, including a 10-2 margin in the first half. The Patriots' attack was caught offside three times in the game's first 12 minutes, but Bailey Wooten and Danielle Lacasse peppered the Oklahoma Christian goal with four shots on goal in a span of less than four minutes before Ashleigh Ackroyd broke through with a goal in the 20th minute off an assist from Kiara Rolen.
Landri Edwards scored her first goal of the season in the 32nd minute, extending the lead to 2-0 with an assist from Shaylee Anaya. After Maya Dossing saved Oklahoma Christian's only shot on goal in the first half in the 26th minute, the UT Tyler defense held the Eagles without a shot the rest of the half.
Gabi Garcia provided another insurance goal just over 20 minutes into the second half, scoring her first goal of the year in the 66th minute to push the lead to 3-0 before lightning strikes in the area delayed and ultimately ended the contest at the 74:48 mark.
Dossing made one save in the first half, combining with Camri Cecil for another cleansheet after Cecil made four second-half saves to preserve the combined shutout.
By The Numbers: With Landri Edwards and Gabi Garcia each scoring their first goal of the year, UT Tyler now has 12 different players with a goal in its first Division II campaign… A total of 16 players have either scored or assisted goals this season as Kiara Rolen registered her first assist of the year while Shaylee Anaya notched her team-high third assist… The Patriots' third consecutive shutout extended the defense to a streak of 279 consecutive scoreless minutes… The shutout was UT Tyler's sixth of the season, and all four of the Patriots' Lone Star Conference victories have been shutouts… UT Tyler generated four corner kicks without conceding one to Oklahoma Christian… The Patriots were whistled offsides six times.
