Patriots Hit Stride At Home

UT Tyler rolled to a 40-point halftime lead and never looked back in a 114-61 victory over Dallas Christian in the Patriots’ home opener

TYLER, Texas -- UT Tyler built a 40-point halftime lead and spent the second half chasing program history in a 114-61 victory over Dallas Christian in the Patriots' home opener Tuesday night.

If anything, the Patriots proved again their potential to score in bunches, producing the second-highest single-game scoring effort in program history with the 114-point performance. The school scoring record is 119 points, set in the 2012-13 home opener against Paul Quinn. Defensively, JT Riddick tied the school-record for blocked shots with 6.

UT Tyler also posted the program's second-best single-game marks in field goals made (46), steals (17), and blocked shots (10). The Patriots have been in the program's top-10 for single-game three-point attempts in all three of their games this season, and their 29 assists tied for No. 4 on the program's all-time list.

All 16 players in uniform played in the game, with no starter logging more than 16 minutes of action as the Patriot bench scored 66 of the team's 114 points. Ty Glover scored all 19 of his points in the first half, leading UT Tyler to a 68-28 halftime lead, and Bradley Mason led the bench scoring effort with 16 points as he buried 4-of-5 three-pointers.

With the victory, UT Tyler improved to 1-2 on the year.

Turning Point: Dallas Christian grabbed its only lead of the game with a pair of offensive rebounds and a putback on its opening possession, but UT Tyler answered with a 19-2 run over the next four minutes. Ty Glover opened the scoring with the first of his four first-half three-pointers, and Bryson Power threw down a dunk that gave the Patriots their first double-digit lead at 15-4.

How It Happened: It took UT Tyler just over four minutes to take a double-digit lead, and the Patriots pushed the lead over 20 points with 8:26 left in the first half. That became a 30-point lead just four minutes later, and Bradley Mason hit a three-pointer in the closing seconds of the first half to send UT Tyler into halftime with a 40-point lead, 68-28.

The Patriots threw down six dunks in the game, scoring efficiently inside and outside with a 56 percent (46-for-82) shooting performance overall. That included a season-high 39 percent (12-for-31) effort from three-point range. UT Tyler spent nearly seven minutes of the second half with a lead of at least 50 points.

UT Tyler Standouts: Ty Glover led the Patriots in scoring for the third straight game, finishing with a game-high 19 points (all in the first half). Bradley Mason produced 16 points and game-highs of 8 assists and 4 steals, while Darius Alford contributed 13 points and 3 steals. JT Riddick registered 6 blocked shots, tying the school single-game record set in 2009 by Jatarvis Van Dyke, and Chris Giles was the fourth Patriot in double figures, scoring 12 points.

Dallas Christian Standouts: D'Aaron Davis gave the Crusaders their only lead of the game in the opening minute, and he registered a double-double as he finished with game-highs of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Varner added 14 points, while Jordon Watson scored 12 points.

By The Numbers: UT Tyler generated huge scoring advantages in the paint (64-30), off turnovers (36-14), and on fast breaks (35-6)… The Patriots controlled the boards with a 43-38 rebounding edge… The first two games of the season produced UT Tyler's second- and third-highest single-game marks for three-point attempts, and Tuesday's home opener featured 31 three-point attempts which tied for the program's eighth-highest total all-time… The Patriots shot 56 percent (46-for-82) from the field, 39 percent (12-for-31) from three-point range, and 91 percent (10-for-11) from the free throw line… Dallas Christian shot 32 percent (20-for-62) from the field, including a 17 percent (4-for-24) clip on three-pointers.

What's Next: UT Tyler is back in action with another non-conference home game against Ecclesia on Friday, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m.

Quotable (UT Tyler head coach Louis Wilson): "The guys did a pretty good job for the most part, and I was particularly pleased with our reserve bigs JT Riddick and Bryson Power. I was also pleased with a number of other players off the bench, including Bradley Mason and Jared Jenkins, and overall I thought the team did a good job."

"Our players are doing a good job playing as a team, trying to lift each other up and be positive, and I like that a lot. We're developing some depth with a lot of guys who are able to play, and I think we're playing hard. Up until this game, we hadn't shot very well, but I think we have a chance to be right there with anybody this year."
