Patriots Rebound Back Into Win Column

Tori Shoemaker’s 10-point, 11-rebound double-double led UT Tyler to a 64-52 non-conference road win over Texas College

TYLER, Texas -- Tori Shoemaker registered her first career double-double, leading UT Tyler to a 64-52 road win over Texas College in the Patriots' final non-conference game of the season.

Shoemaker tied her career scoring high with 10 points, sinking 5-of-7 from the field, and she established a new career-high in rebounds with 11. She also tied her career-high in blocks with four as the Patriots completed a season series sweep over the Steers.

Turning Point: Texas College held a one-point lead after the first quarter, and the teams were still practically even in the opening minutes of the second quarter with UT Tyler holding a 19-18 edge with 7:19 to play. However, Ruth Nwokora got the Patriots started on a 12-2 run with a bucket in the paint, and Kelsey Crouse followed with a pair of field goals, one from three-point range. The run helped UT Tyler build a 31-20 edge and an eventual 37-29 halftime advantage, and the Patriots led by at least eight for all but 17 seconds of the second half.

How It Happened: The lead changed hands four times in the opening quarter, as Texas College claimed a 13-12 edge after the first quarter. Rylan Rogers knocked down back-to-back threes in the final minute of the half, but Kelsey Crouse answered the Steers' 7-0 run with a trey in the closing seconds of the half to send UT Tyler into halftime with a 37-29 halftime advantage.

After Tamia Mobley opened the third quarter with a basket that trimmed the lead to 37-31, the Patriots responded with an 8-0 run with scoring from Crouse, Tori Shoemaker, and Laruen Riles to extend the lead to 45-31 midway through the third. UT Tyler led by at least eight points the rest of the quarter and maintained a margin of at least nine throughout the entire fourth quarter to cruise to the victory.
