DALLAS, Tex.--The University of Texas at Tyler Men's and Women's Tennis teams competed in Dallas, Texas on Thursday afternoon. The women's team made up their rescheduled match against Tarleton State University before both squads competed against the University of Texas-Permian Basin.
The Patriot women began the day with a 7-0 lost to Tarleton St. Before bouncing back to defeat the Falcons in the second match of the day, 5-3. After doubles competition of the UTPB match, UT Tyler had a 2-1 advantage. At one-doubles, Anna Claire Gerletti (Cypress, Texas) and Lauren Kuhn (Carrolton, Texas) earned 6-4 and 6-3 victories. The other victory came at number-three doubles with Chloe Chawner (Holmfirth Yorkshire, England) and Victoria Kniffen (Kerrville, Texas) picking up 6-2 and 6-0 set scores.
Chawner also picked up a win at one-singles when she won the first set 6-4 and the second by a score 6-3. At four-singles, Brooke Brewer (McKinney, Texas) also won handily by defeating her opponent, 6-1 and 6-2. The final point for the Patriots came at six-single courtesy of Ana Zaidan (Betim, Minas Gerais, Brazil). She won the first set, 6-2, before sweeping the second set, 6-0.
In the men's contest against the Falcons, UTPB earned a 6-3 victories taking all three doubles victories. The teams split the singles matches with Michael Apple (Memphis, Tennessee) picking up the win at number-one singles. He took the first two sets by a score of 7-6. Daniel Rodriguez (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) and Tomas Parra (Maracaibo, Venezuela) also earned wins at number-three and six singles, respectively.
Both teams will be in action again on Sunday in Prairie View, Texas. The men will take on Prairie View A&M University while the women will face off against Texas A&M University-Kingsville.
