MAGNOLIA, Ark.—The University of Texas at Tyler Men's Tennis (0-4) competed Tuesday afternoon at Southern Arkansas University (5-2), dropping the matchup, 7-0. It was fourth dual-match of the Spring against an NCAA Division II opponent while the Muleriders are receiving votes in the NCAA II national rankings.
Beginning with doubles play, juniors
Daniel Rodriguez (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) and
Gabriel Hidalgo (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) put up a strong fight at number-one doubles. They dropped the match, 6-3, while senior
Tomas Parra (Maracaibo, Venezuela) and junior
Ford Cunningham (League City, Texas) dropped their match at number-three doubles to the same score.
In singles action, Rodriguez forced a third set before dropping the match at number-two singles. He won the second set, 6-4, before narrowly dropping the third set, 6-4. Senior
Michael Apple (Memphis, Tennessee) also fell just shy at number-one singles dropping his match, 7-5 and 6-4.
The Patriots will be in action again on March 6 when the host Dallas Baptist University at the summers Tennis Center. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
