ORLANDO, Fla.—The University of Texas at Tyler Men's Tennis (2-5) fell, 5-0, to NCAA Division II University of North Georgia (9-1) Tuesday afternoon in the second of their four-match trip to central Florida.
In doubles play, the Nighthawks quickly earned a pair of wins to seal the point. The closest match came at number-two doubles but would not be finished with UNG capturing the point early. Junior
Daniel Rodriguez (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) and sophomore
Jose Currea (Bogota, Columbia) were even at 5-5 with their opponents before doubles action concluded.
Taking victories in the first four singles matches, the Nighthawks sealed the match with a win at number-one singles. The remaining two matches went unfinished but were the closest of singles play. Junior
Ford Cunningham (League City, Texas) had won the first set, 7-5, but the match went unfinished with him behind, 3-2, in the second set. At number-four, the matched was stopped with Currea tied at six in the first set with his opponent.
The Patriots will wrap-up their trip on Wednesday with a pair of matches. They will begin the day against NCAA Division I Xavier University at 10:30 a.m. (CST) before ending the trip against NCAA Division II Post University at 6:30 p.m. (CST).
