CLARKSVILLE, Ark.—The University of Texas at Tyler Men's Tennis (3-8) swept a midweek matchup on the road at the University of the Ozarks (3-8) in a match originally scheduled for Sunday.
At number-two doubles, junior
Daniel Rodriguez (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) and sophomore
Jose Currea (Bogota, Columbia) picked up a team-high third doubles win together this season with an 8-0 victory. Junior
Ford Cunningham (League City, Texas) and sophomore
Connor Cooper (Tyler, Texas) also shutout their opponent at number-three while junior
Gabriel Hidalgo (Barquisimento, Venezuela) and senior
Michael Apple (Memphis, Tennessee) earned an 8-3 victory at the top of the lineup.
Apple led the Patriots in singles action with 6-0 victory at the number-one singles to earn two victories in the match. His doubles partner, Apple, also earned a victory with a 6-0, 6-1 win at number-three. Rodriguez, Currea, and Cunningham also picked up their second victories of the day with wins at numbers-two, four, and five. The final singles victory went to senior
Alvar De La Mano (Barcelona, Spain) who recorded back-to-back 6-0 shutouts at number-six.
The Patriots will host a pair of matches this weekend when they welcome East Texas Baptist University to the Summers Tennis Center on Friday and Belhaven University on Saturday. Friday's match will begin at 3:30 p.m. with Saturday's contest set to begin at 10 a.m.
