TYLER, Texas—The University of Texas Tyler Women's Tennis (6-8) began their two-match weekend with a shutout, 7-0, victory Friday over East Texas Baptist University (9-5) at the Summers Tennis Center.
The Patriots took all three doubles matches highlighted by freshman
Chloe Chawner (Holmfirth Yorkshire, England) and senior
Victoria Kniffen (Kerrville, Texas) winning their fourth-consecutive match together with an 8-5 win at number-three. At number-two, senior
Alexandra McKissick (Houston, Texas) and freshman
Brooke Brewer (McKinney, Texas) picked up an 8-4 victory to make their third straight win together. Freshman
Anna Claire Gerletti (Cypress, Texas) and senior
Lauren Kuhn (Carrolton, Texas) competed at the top of the doubles lineup and won their fifth match of the season, 8-3.
Moving to singles play, Brewer won her eighth match of the season and fourth-consecutive a playing at number-four. She won her first set 6-1 before sweeping the second set, 6-0. Sophomore
Caitlyn Cox (Tyler, Texas) and senior
Savannah Seely (North Richland, Texas) also earned convincing wins at numbers-five and six. Cox took a pair of 6-0 wins while Seely recorded a 6-2, 6-1 victory. At number-one, Chawner earned a narrow 7-6 win in the first set before her opponent forced a third-set tiebreak. Chawner went on to capture the match, 10-5, in the third set. Gerletti and Kuhn also picked up a win in singles play with victories at number-two and three in the lineup.
The Patriots continue their weekend with their final home match of the season on Saturday. They take on Belhaven University beginning at 10 a.m. at the Summers Tennis Center.
