TYLER, Texas—The University of Texas at Tyler Men's Tennis (1-4) picked up their first dual match victory of the season, 4-2, Wednesday afternoon over NCAA Division II opponent Dallas Baptist University (5-6) at the Summers Tennis Center.
The Patriots took two of the three doubles matches with a dominate win at number-one. Senior
Michael Apple (Memphis, Tennessee) and junior
Gabriel Hidalgo (Barquisimento, Venezuela) picked up a 6-1 win in their first match together this season. Picking up a 6-4 victory at number four was senior
Tomas Parra (Maracaibo, Venezuela) and junior
Ford Cunningham (League City, Texas) for their second victory of the season.
Hildalgo and Parra both also earned victories in their singles matches at number-three and four. Hidalgo got his first singles win of the season with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at number three. Parra now leads the team with four singles victories this season with a 6-3, 6-4 win.
Senior
Alvar De La Mano (Barcelona, Spain) earned the final victory of the afternoon for the Patriots at number-six singles. He earned back-to-back 6-1 victories to pick up his first singles win of the season.
The Patriots will travel to Orland, Florida for four matches next week against NCAA Division I and II opponents. The week will begin with a pair of matches against Howard University and Shippensburg University on Monday.
