LONGVIEW, Texas—The University of Texas at Tyler Men's Tennis (6-8) traveled to LeTourneau University (11-7) Monday evening for their final match in ASC play. The Patriots earned a 6-3 victory by taking the first three singles matches.
In doubles action, junior
Daniel Rodriguez (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) and sophomore
Jose Currea (Bogota, Columbia) won their fourth-consecutive match together at number-two. The earned an 8-5 victory while junior
Ford Cunningham (League City, Texas) and sophomore
Connor Cooper (Tyler, Texas) took the match at number-three with the same score.
The first singles victory came from Currea at number-three who won his fourth-straight match. He took the first set, 6-3, before getting a 6-2 win in the second. At the top of the lineup, Rodriguez got his sixth victory of the season to tie for the team-high. He dropped the first set before taking the second, 6-2, and pulling out a close 7-6 (7-5) win in the final set.
Junior
Gabriel Hidalgo (Barquisimento, Venezuela) represented the decisive point for the Patriots at number-two. He also needed three-sets to seal the win by a score of 6-0, 4-6, 6-3. The final singles victory came from senior
Alvar De La Mano (Barcelona, Spain) at number-five. He picked up a narrow, 6-4 victory in the first set before getting his sixth win of the season by taking the second set, 6-2.
The Patriots' 2019 season will come to a close on Thursday when they travel to Austin, Texas for a matchup with future Lone Star Conference opponent St. Edward's University at noon.
