Patriots Fall to NCAA II #27 St. Edward’s to End Season

AUSTIN, Texas—The University of Texas at Tyler Men's Tennis (6-9) dropped their final match of the 2019 season, 7-0, to NCAA Division II No. 27 St. Edwards University (17-6). The two teams will be regular opponents in the future with both set to join the Lone Star Conference in 2019-20.

In doubles action, senior Michael Apple (Memphis, Tennessee) and junior Gabriel Hidalgo (Barquisimento, Venezuela) pushed their opponent to the brink before falling just shy. The Patriots' top double team in the lineup fell 6-5 after dropping the tiebreak, 7-5.

Moving in to singles action, junior Daniel Rodriguez (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) also saw his match decided by tiebreakers. He dropped both sets, 7-6 (7-4), at number-two in the singles lineup. Hidalgo played another close match at number-three after dropping a narrow doubles match. After dropping the first set, Hidalgo took the second set with a 7-6 score but went on to drop the match.

The Patriots will not compete again until the 2019-20 academic year.
