Quick Strikes Lift Patriots To Road Win

Bailey Wooten scored and assisted goals in a span of just 18 seconds to lead UT Tyler to a 2-0 road win over Harding University

SEARCY, Ark. – Bailey Wooten scored a goal late in the first half and assisted another just 18 seconds later to lead the UT Tyler women's soccer team to a 2-0 road win over Harding University Thursday evening.

After giving the Patriots a 1-0 lead, the senior midfielder set up a finish for Kiersten Ehler, who had just entered the game as a substitute following Wooten's goal, to give UT Tyler a 2-0 lead. All five of the Patriots' five goals this season have been scored by a different player, and eight different players have entered the scoring column with either a goal or an assist.

Goalkeeper Camri Cecil produced her second shutout in three games, and the Patriots have now gone three consecutive games without conceding a goal in regulation.  With the win, UT Tyler improves to 2-1, while Harding drops to 1-2.

How It Happened: Wooten provided the offensive spark for UT Tyler in the 38th minute, first putting a Maren Moore cross to the far post into the side netting on the left side.  Just 18 seconds later, after UT Tyler regained possession in the defensive third, Wooten played a perfect ball to Ehler from midfield, leading Ehler into the box where she chipped the ball over the keeper to the far post in nearly the identical spot where Wooten had previously scored.

The Patriots leaned into their defense in the second half, with Cecil registering six of her season-high seven saves after halftime. UT Tyler's depth helped keep the game out of reach, as 24 different players registered minutes in the 2-0 win.

By The Numbers: UT Tyler finished with a 16-13 edge in shots, posting an advantage in both the first (6-4) and second (10-9) halves… Nine different players recorded a shot for the Patriots, with goalscorers Wooten and Ehler each producing two shots while Mariah Harmon and Shaylee Anaya each registered a game-high three shots… Harding had five corner kicks in each half, finishing with a 10-4 edge in corners… The Patriots put five of their 10 second-half shots on goal.

What's Next: UT Tyler's next game is a Saturday, Sept. 21 visit to Mississippi College, which is the final non-conference tune-up before the Patriots open Lone Star Conference play at home against UT Permian Basin on Thursday, Sept. 26.

Quotable (UT Tyler head coach Stefani Webb): "Bailey had a tremendous game, and she really got after the game with confidence today. Not many players at any level can pick up a goal and an assist in 18 seconds, and she really picked us up late in the half."

"The fun part about this team is our depth. We have so many players who can step up and take over a game. As proud as I am of our performance on the attacking side of the ball, I am just as excited to see our defense produce another shutout."
