CLINTON, Miss. – The UT Tyler women's soccer team claimed an early lead to protect in Saturday's visit to Mississippi College, but
Mariah Harmon's fourth-minute score was eventually answered three times late in the first half before the Choctaws pulled away in the second half for a 5-1 win.
Mississippi College, which was ranked 13
th in the preseason Division II poll but dropped out of the national rankings after an early defeat, pulled even at 1-1 just over 30 minutes into the contest, ending a streak of over 300 minutes in which UT Tyler did not allow a regulation (non-overtime) goal. In fact, the Patriots had not allowed a goal in the run of play in 2019, as the lone score conceded by UT Tyler was a penalty kick.
How It Happened:
Mariah Harmon scored her second goal of the season just 3:41 into Saturday's contest, and
Taylor Dickens registered the assist on the early go-ahead score. However, after Erin Hederman tied the game at 1-1 in the 31
st minute, Mississippi College added a go-ahead penalty kick in the 35
th-minute and scored again 35 seconds later to take a 3-1 lead into the half.
Mississippi College added insurance goals in the 67
th minute and 81
st minute for the final 5-1 margin.
