Patriots Post First Lone Star Win

Korey Cyr scored late in the first half for the first of three UT Tyler goals in a 3-0 win over UT Permian Basin in the Patriots’ Lone Star Conference opener

TYLER, Texas – The UT Tyler women's soccer team posted a 3-0 victory over UT Permian Basin in the Patriots' first-ever Lone Star Conference game Thursday night.

Korey Cyr scored the Patriots' first Lone Star Conference goal late in the first half, ending the half on a positive note after UT Tyler produced a huge edge in possession and scoring chances but didn't have a goal to show for it until Cyr's finish in the 42nd minute.

The Patriots were whistled offside seven times in the first half alone, and 15 times overall, but Anna Caccamo put away a loose ball in the box in the 56th minute for a 2-0 lead before Lyndsey Rolen added another insurance goal in the 86th minute.

With the win, UT Tyler improves to 3-2 overall, 1-0 in the Lone Star Conference, while UT Permian Basin falls to 0-4 overall, 0-1 in the Lone Star.

How It Happened: It took most of the first half for UT Tyler to establish its rhythm on the attack, as the Patriots were whistled offside seven times in the first 32 minutes.  However, UT Tyler had a more disciplined attack with two shots before Korey Cyr finished a cross to the near post from Kaycee West in the 42nd minute.

The goal was the first of the season and third career score for Cyr, a third-year player who becomes the first UT Tyler player to score a goal in Lone Star Conference play. In the second half, Anna Caccamo and Lyndsey Rolen added their season-first goals, with Caccamo cleaning up a loose ball at the top of the box for an unassisted score in the 56th minute while Rolen finished a chance in the 86th minute with an assist from Taylor Peimbert.

Lone Star Conference Firsts:
By The Numbers: UT Tyler posted a 17-7 edge in shots and a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks… The Patriots were called offside 15 times… Camri Cecil collected four saves en route to her third shutout of the season… Twenty-seven players appeared in the contest, with 13 different players recording a shot… UT Tyler's nine goals this season have been scored by eight different players, and all three of Thursday's goals and both assists were the first of the season for each player… Thirteen different players have either scored or assisted goals for the Patriots this year.

What's Next: The 13-match Lone Star Conference gauntlet is now underway, and UT Tyler continues conference play when it hosts Lubbock Christian on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 1 p.m.

Quotable (UT Tyler head coach Stefani Webb): "We're excited to get our first win in the LSC, because we knew this was going to be a difficult conference, so I think we had some nerves in the early part of the game. You could see that in some of our final-third ideas, but as we settled into the game, I thought we did a good job managing the pressure of it and it just became a matter of putting the game away."

"We're trying to be successful in the conference (this year), but one of the things we have to do over our next two years is learn. We have to give players the minutes they need so we can see and evaluate them while allowing them to grow in the game and continue to build confidence."
