HOUSTON -- The UT Tyler track and field teams rewrote three more school records at the Howie Ryan Invitational at the University of Houston as the Patriots finalized their preparations for next week's Lone Star Conference indoor track and field championships in Lubbock.
School Records: Corey Perryman knocked two-hundredths of a second off his 60-meter hurdles school-record, running 8.42 in the preliminary qualifying heats. Summer Grubbs took three-hundredths of a second off the 400 meter record she set two weeks ago, running a time of 59.94 to establish an improved school-record, and Nicolette Esparza beat her previous 800 meter school record mark by nearly three seconds with a time of 2:25.85.
Top Men's Performances: Perryman's record performance was one of several top performances in the sprints, as Damarion Greenwood tied his PR in the 60 meter hurdles (8.73) and Kade Trompler hit a new PR in the semifinals of the 60-meter dash. Trompler's time of 7.00 ranks third on the program's all-time list, and he's now just one-hundredth off the No. 2 spot on the list and just two-hundredths away from the school record.
The Patriots produced another eight personal-bests on the track, including four efforts which impacted the program's all-time top-five performances. Zachary Tucker ran a 4:33.84 mile, improving his previous best at No. 3 on the program's all-time list, and Tad Nackos and Eli Sellers both improved on their No. 4 and 5 spots in the 800 meters with personal-best times. Nackos ran a 1:58.49 while Sellers registered 2:00.68, and Austin McGougan and Conor Linekin also turned in personal-bests in the 800. Grayson Lawrence hit a personal-best in the 400 meters, improving his spot at No. 5 on the program's all-time list with a time of 51.05, while Collin Rippy also recorded a personal-best in the 400 (52.63).
Top Women's Performances: Summer Grubbs notched a new 400-meter school record, and Kyra Winn climbed to second on the list with a personal-best time of 1:01.61. Nicolette Esparza improved her 800-meter school record, and Winn posted a time of 2:41.56 in her first race of the season at that distance. Natalie Decker recorded a personal-best in the long jump, improving her place at third on the program's all-time list with a leap of 4.97 meters (16-feet, 3.75-inches).
