CANYON, TEXAS – The UT Tyler track and field programs wrapped up competition Saturday at the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships with conference titles, NCAA marks, school records, and multiple podium finishes as the Patriots closed out another successful weekend in Canyon.
Leading the way once again was Juliane Frueh, who added another conference title by winning the women's high jump after clearing 1.71 meters. Earlier in the weekend, Frueh captured the heptathlon championship by 427 points while winning four events, including the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 800 meters. Her school-record time of 2:10.52 in the 800 meters currently ranks among the top performances nationally in NCAA Division II.
Jada Owens earned an LSC title in the women's shot put with a personal-best throw of 14.29 meters, a mark that ranks among the top performances nationally this season.
On the track, Brandon Arenas claimed the conference championship in the men's 110-meter hurdles after running 13.89, improving his NCAA Division II national ranking. Freshman Dameon Smith Jr. followed with a runner-up finish in 14.06 to give the Patriots two spots on the podium.
Chris Kopecky added another conference title for UT Tyler after winning the men's 1,500 meters in 3:53.88.
The Patriots continued their strong performances in the sprint events as Aerin Thompson finished runner-up in both the women's 400 meters and 200 meters. Thompson's 52.15 in the 400 moved her to No. 3 nationally in Division II while also setting another personal best.
Dylan Bennett earned a third-place finish in the men's 100 meters with a season-best 10.31, while freshman Jakai Timmons placed third in the men's 400 meters after clocking a personal-best 46.55 that improved his national standing.
Additional scoring performances came from Hannah Lakin, who placed third in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best 58.95 that ranks among the top times nationally, and Jeremiah Evans, who finished third in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best 52.26.
In the distance events, Macy Cogburn finished fourth in the women's 1,500 meters, while Austin Ponder added another podium finish with a third-place effort in the men's 5,000 meters.
The Patriots also turned in strong relay performances to close the meet as the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Hannah Lakin, Kamaria Carr, Jasmine Haywood, and Aerin Thompson captured the conference title with the NCAA Division II-leading time of 3:33.85. The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Dakalon Tyler, Zachary Paul, Preston Ayers, and Jakai Timmons finished runner-up in 3:07.32, while the men's 4x100-meter relay squad of Ashton Bates, Landon Smith, Dylan Bennett, and Jackson Crysup placed third with a time of 39.92.
