Patriots Shine with Record-Breaking Performances at Bryan Phillips Invitational

UT Tyler posts multiple wins, school records, and national-leading marks in dominant weekend at Harding.

SEARCY, ARK. – The UT Tyler track and field program delivered a dominant all-around performance at the Bryan Phillips Invitational, hosted by Harding, highlighted by multiple event wins, school records, and national marks across both days of competition.

The Patriots opened the meet on Friday with strong showings in the hammer throw. Hunter Rivet led the men with a fourth-place finish at 51.78 meters, while Jada Owens placed sixth in the women's competition with a mark of 50.21 meters. Kaitlyn Johnson also competed for the women, recording a throw of 45.49 meters.

Saturday's field events saw UT Tyler continue to impress. Kaden Adams recorded a runner-up finish in the men's shot put with a mark of 16.00 meters, while Owens delivered a record-breaking performance in the women's shot put, placing second with a school record throw of 14.27 meters, ranking No. 16 in Division II.

Jasmine Haywood highlighted the horizontal jumps with a first-place finish in the long jump at 5.80 meters, while Kyshaun Otis placed 10th on the men's side (6.41m). Maren Ware added a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (11.36m), and Alesha Jackson cleared 1.53 meters to place fifth in the high jump.

In the throws, Rivet added another fourth-place finish in the discus (46.49m), followed closely by Sutherland Singer in sixth (46.43m). Johnson placed sixth in the women's discus with a throw of 40.18 meters.

On the track, the Patriots turned in several standout performances, beginning with Elayna Metzger's second-place finish in the women's 3000m steeplechase (12:01.46).

The relay squads stole the spotlight, as the women's 4x100 team of Brandi Drake, Haywood, Kaylee Monthie, and Aerin Thompson raced to a first-place finish in 45.89, shattering the school record and moving to No. 7 in the nation. The men followed with a first-place finish of their own in the 4x100, as Preston Ayers, Dylan Bennett, Ashton Bates, and Landon Smith clocked 40.47.

In the 1500 meters, Kason Miles led a strong men's group with a second-place finish (3:59.08), followed by Austin Ponder (4th, 4:00.16), Andes Rios (5th, 4:02.52), and Gaige Gordey (6th, 4:03.20). On the women's side, Addison Truly placed eighth (4:55.76), with Giselle Alejandro finishing 10th (4:59.76).

The hurdles group continued the momentum, as Isabel Jakobsen placed second in the women's 100m hurdles (14.24), followed by Zakaiya Hunte (14.36) and Kaylee Davis (7th, 15.22). Brandon Arenas (3rd, 14.19) and Dameon Smith Jr. (4th, 14.36) led the men in the 110m hurdles.

Aerin Thompson delivered one of the top performances of the meet in the women's 400 meters, winning the event in a school record time of 52.56. Kamaria Carr added a second-place finish with a season-best 53.93. On the men's side, Jakai Timmons took first (47.00), followed by Ayers (2nd, 47.29), Dakalon Taylor (4th, 47.70), William Davis (5th, 48.46), and Corbin Parker (9th, 49.55).

In the sprints, Dylan Bennett captured first in the men's 100 meters (10.33), while Bates (3rd, 10.57) and Smith (4th, 10.57) added top finishes. Brandi Drake placed fourth in the women's 100 meters (12.28).

The middle-distance group also impressed, as Macy Cogburn placed third in the women's 800 meters (2:12.43), followed by Hadassah Balcorta (7th), Truly (8th), and Calista Turner (10th). On the men's side, Chris Kopecky finished second (1:51.65), with Brandon Jimenez (4th) and Dakota Jimenez (7th) also scoring.

Hannah Lakin claimed gold in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 59.82, while Hunte placed second. Jeremiah Evans led the men in the 400m hurdles with a third-place finish (53.67).

The men's 200 meters featured a deep group effort, led by Dakalon Taylor's third-place finish (21.21), followed by Bennett, Bates, Smith, Ayers, and Timmons, all placing in the top 10.

The meet concluded with another historic performance from the women's 4x400 relay team, as Lakin, Carr, Haywood, and Thompson raced to a first-place finish in 3:35.31, setting a new school record and moving to No. 1 in the nation. The men's 4x400 team of Evans, Caleb Williams, Davis, and Zachary Paul added a second-place finish (3:10.49) to cap the weekend.

UT Tyler will look to carry this momentum into their next meet at North Texas as the outdoor season continues.
