TYLER, Texas -- Eastern New Mexico raced out to an early first-quarter lead and never looked back, cruising to an 81-46 victory over UT Tyler Saturday afternoon.
The Greyhounds hit 12-of-16 shots in the first quarter to jump out to a 26-8 lead, and they led by at least 20 points after scoring the first points of the second quarter.
It was the final home game for the Patriots and their lone senior, Beezy Birchette, who scored 6 points and turned in team-highs of 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
After the loss, UT Tyler dropped to 3-21 overall and 1-19 in Lone Star Conference play heading into the final week of the regular season, while Eastern New Mexico improved to 18-8 overall and 12-8 in LSC play.
How It Happened: After jumping out to the early lead with its 75 percent shooting performance in the first quarter, Eastern New Mexico steadily added to the lead the rest of the way. The Greyhounds extended the lead with a 21-point second quarter, taking a 47-20 halftime lead.
ENMU outscored the Patriots by four points in the third quarter and added another four-point margin in the fourth quarter to post the convincing victory.
UT Tyler Standouts: Beezy Birchette led the Patriots in rebounds (7) and assists (5) while scoring 6 points in her final home game, and Aubree Adams came off the bench to lead UT Tyler in scoring with 13 points. Tyreesha Blaylock scored 11 points, all in the second half, and Kelsey Crouse added 9 points. Tori Shoemaker came off the bench and recorded 3 blocked shots.
Eastern New Mexico Standouts: Natalie DeLonge scored a game-high 20 points on a 10-of-13 shooting performance from the field, and Zamorye Cox scored 15 points while hitting 3-of-7 from three-point range. Cox added a game-high 10 rebounds, and Taylee Rippee came off the bench to score 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Natalie Stice registered a game-high 6 assists.
By The Numbers: Eastern New Mexico posted a commanding 57-27 edge on the boards, and the Greyhounds dominated scoring totals from second chance points (20-4), fast breaks (12-3), points in the paint (36-16), and points off turnovers (22-12)… Eastern New Mexico lifted 77 field-goal attempts, shooting 48 percent (37-for-77) overall and 23 percent (7-for-30) from three-point range… The Greyhounds attempted two free throws in the game, missing them both… UT Tyler shot 31 percent (19-for-61) overall and 13 percent (3-for-23) on three-pointers… Tyreesha Blaylock's 11-point effort was her second straight game in double figures and her eighth time this season with at least 10 points.
What's Next: UT Tyler finishes the 2019-20 campaign on the road with visits next week to UAFS (Feb. 27) and Oklahoma Christian (Feb. 29).
