Glover Scores 32 In OT Road Defeat At Commerce

Ty Glover notched his second 30-point game of the season with a game-high 32 points in a 77-63 overtime loss on the road at A&M-Commerce

COMMERCE, Texas -- Ty Glover scored 32 points, his highest in a Lone Star Conference contest and just two points off his overall season-high, as he helped UT Tyler push division-leading Texas A&M-Commerce to overtime on the road Saturday afternoon. Glover scored 30 in regulation, and he scored the Patriots' only points in overtime on a pair of free throws as A&M-Commerce pulled away in the extra five-minute period for a 77-63 win.

Glover made 11-of-19 from the field, including a three-pointer, and he nailed 9-of-10 free throws in his first 30-point game since he scored 34 in the second game of the season in another overtime defeat to Dixie State.

With the loss, UT Tyler fell to 6-15 overall, 3-13 in the Lone Star Conference, and 1-5 within the division. Texas A&M-Commerce remains unbeaten within the division through six games, and the Lions improved to 14-8 overall and 10-6 in LSC play.

Turning Point: Ty Glover scored 9 points during an 11-3 run midway through the second half, erasing a six-point deficit to take a 48-46 lead with 10:15 remaining in regulation. Glover opened the run with back-to-back baskets, and he closed it out with another five consecutive points, including a pair of free throws on a three-shot foul that gave the Patriots their first lead of the game. Neither team led by more than three points for the rest of regulation.

How It Happened: Texas A&M-Commerce seized an early 13-4 lead and took it all the way to halftime for a 32-25 margin at the break. Ty Glover led all scorers in the first half with 15 points plus a block and 3 steals, and he scored five straight points to cap a 9-0 run which tied the game at 17-17 with 6:22 left in the first half. The Lions scored 15 of the final 23 in the half for a seven-point halftime edge.

Micah Fuller and Bradley Mason each hit a three-pointer within the first two minutes of the second half to close the gap to just three points with just over 18 minutes to play in regulation. The Patriots pulled within two points on three separate occasions before Glover steered UT Tyler into the lead midway through the second half when he was fouled on a three-point attempt and two-of-three to give the Patriots a 48-46 lead with 10:15 left in regulation.

There were two more lead changes and five ties in the final 10 minutes, and Glover hit a pair of free throws that gave UT Tyler a 61-59 lead heading into the final minute, but Alberto Moreno answered with a pair of free throws to tie the game at 61-61 with under a minute remaining.

Overtime belonged to the Lions, who scored 11 in a row to roll to a 72-61 lead with just 1:25 left in the extra period. Ty Glover scored UT Tyler's only overtime points on a pair of free throws with 1:23 to play. Moreno added the final five points of the contest to provide the final 77-63 margin.

UT Tyler Standouts: Ty Glover was the Patriots' lone double figure scorer, and he also grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds and a game-high 6 steals. Bryson Power added 8 points, while Ansu Sesay scored 6 points with 5 rebounds off the bench.

Texas A&M-Commerce Standouts: Three Lions scored in double figures, and Alberto Moreno led the way with a team-high 23 points. Deonta Terrell added 19 points along with a team-high 5 steals, and Wayne Stewart tallied a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double.

By The Numbers: Texas A&M-Commerce generated a 36-27 rebounding edge over the Patriots… Eleven of the Lions' boards were offensive rebounds, leading Commerce to a 14-8 edge in second chamce points… The teams finished one turnover apart, with UT Tyler committing 17 turnovers to the Lions' turnover total of 16… The Patriots took advantage of nearly every miscue, generating a 24-13 edge in points off turnovers… Glover scored 15 points with 3 steals in each half, and he collected UT Tyler's only points and lone rebound in overtime.

What's Next: UT Tyler continues Lone Star Conference play on the road next week, visiting a pair of divisional rivals with road games at Cameron on Thursday, Feb. 13 and at Oklahoma Christian on Saturday, Feb. 15.
