TYLER, Texas -- UT Tyler right-handed pitcher Austin Schneider was selected to participate in this week's Collegiate Summer Baseball Invitational, which is an invitation only, four-team regional formatted tournament featuring players from elite universities all around the country.
 
The three-day tournament is held in Bryan, Texas, and the first two games of the tournament on Thursday, June 4, will be televised live on ESPN2. The four teams competed for three days of workouts before final rosters are assembled to play in a weekend round-robin tournament that will include six games in three days.
 
Schneider was one of only two players from NCAA Division II programs selected for the final rosters, joining a group composed almost entirely of players from NCAA Division I programs. Before the 2020 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Schneider ranked among the Division II national strikeout leaders with 63 strikeouts in 39 innings as he posted a 4-0 record in 7 starts with a 2.08 ERA. He struck out a school-record 17 in a complete-game shutout over Cameron.

"Austin has been a part of our program for four years and has worked extremely hard to get where he is today. He was an integral part of our national championship run in 2018 as a sophomore, and he has elevated his game since then, becoming our ace the past two seasons. He will be competing against some of the best collegiate baseball players in the country, and he continues to be a great ambassador for our program."
