Patriots Sweep Lobos in Tripleheader Behind Explosive Offense

UT Tyler improves to 33-9 and remains atop the LSC after winning 15 of its last 16 games, highlighted by 50 total runs across three games against Sul Ross State.

TYLER, TEXAS – The UT Tyler baseball program continued its dominant stretch with a sweep of Sul Ross State on Friday, improving to 33-9 overall and remaining atop the Lone Star Conference standings. The Patriots have now won 15 of their last 16 games, using explosive offense and consistent pitching across all three contests.

GAME ONE

The Patriots opened the day with a strong 12-2 victory, using a balanced offensive attack and dominant pitching to take control early.

UT Tyler struck in the second inning as Drew Schmidt and Kaston Mason delivered back-to-back doubles, with Mason driving in the first run. A sacrifice fly from Bryce Jewell made it 2-0.

Sul Ross State answered with a run in the bottom half, but the Patriots responded in the third. Tanner Hornback and Cole Ketzner reached base before Mason drove in another run with a single to push the lead to 3-1.

The game remained steady until the sixth inning when UT Tyler broke it open. After loading the bases, Hornback crushed a grand slam, extending the lead to 7-1.

The Patriots added five more runs in the seventh inning. Schmidt led off with a triple before Mason doubled him home. Connor Clark followed with a two-RBI single, and Hornback added a sacrifice fly to cap the inning at 12-1.

Sul Ross State added a solo home run late, but UT Tyler secured the 12-2 win.

Hornback led the way, going 3-for-4 with five RBIs, while Mason added three hits and three RBIs. Clark also recorded a multi-hit game with two RBIs.

On the mound, Coleson Abel earned the win in relief, tossing four innings and allowing just one hit while striking out six.


GAME TWO

The Patriots continued their offensive surge in game two with a dominant 22-3 victory, racking up 19 hits and scoring in six different innings.

UT Tyler got on the board in the second inning behind a two-RBI double from Bryce Jewell. A sacrifice fly from Drew Schmidt in the third made it 3-0.

The Patriots added two more in the fourth, highlighted by a solo home run from Ben Lea and an RBI after Cole Ketzner was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The game broke wide open in the fifth inning as UT Tyler erupted for eight runs. Jewell drove in two with a single, Ryan Walker added an RBI walk, and Tanner Hornback followed with a two-RBI single. Schmidt and Travis Bragg each added RBIs to push the lead to 13-1.

UT Tyler poured it on with six more runs in the sixth inning, including a three-RBI double from Jewell, stretching the lead to 19-3.

The Patriots tacked on three additional runs in the seventh, highlighted by RBI hits from Logan Jenkins and Joseph Dominguez, along with an RBI walk from Drew Bourgeois to cap the 22-3 win.

Jewell led the offense with a 4-for-5 performance and seven RBIs. Bragg added two hits and three RBIs, while several Patriots recorded multi-hit games.

Matthew Mackenzie earned the win, tossing three scoreless innings with five strikeouts.

GAME THREE

UT Tyler completed the sweep with a 16-5 win, using a big middle innings surge and a late offensive outburst to pull away.

The Patriots struck first in the opening inning as Connor Clark came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Cole Ketzner. After Sul Ross tied the game in the bottom half, UT Tyler regained the lead in the second on an RBI single from Clark.

The Patriots added another in the third when Hornback scored following a productive at-bat from Drew Schmidt, making it 3-1.

Sul Ross State answered with two runs in the third to tie the game at 3-3, but UT Tyler responded with a decisive five-run fourth inning. With the bases loaded, Schmidt drew a walk to bring in a run before Kaston Mason delivered a three-RBI double. Bryce Jewell followed with an RBI double to extend the lead to 8-3.

UT Tyler added a run in the fifth on an RBI double from Ketzner and another in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Clark to make it 10-4.

The Patriots put the game away late with a five-run ninth inning. Ketzner launched a solo home run before Jewell added an RBI double. Tanner Chelette and Hornback each drove in runs, and another run scored on a passed ball to cap the scoring at 16-4.

Sul Ross added a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth, but the Patriots closed out the 16-5 victory.

Ketzner led the offense with a home run and multiple RBIs, while Jewell continued his strong day at the plate going 4-6. Hornback also added multiple hits and RBIs in the win.

Tyler Puckett earned the win in relief, providing 2.1 strong innings while allowing just one run and striking out three.

The Patriots outscored the Lobos 69-11 across the three-game sweep and will now return home to host Oklahoma Christian as they continue Lone Star Conference play.
