TYLER, Texas -- UT Tyler lost its second consecutive Lone Star Conference weekend series after St. Edward's completed the two-game sweep with a 64-37 win over the Patriots Saturday afternoon.
The Hilltoppers outscored UT Tyler in all four quarters, although the Patriots enjoyed a strong start as the teams swapped leads six times in the first six minutes of the contest before St. Edward's moved in front for good.
Taylor Jackson led the way for UT Tyler with a game-high 15 points, while St. Edward's countered with 14 points from Charli Becker and five other players with at least 7 points.
UT Tyler falls to 0-4 on the season, while St. Edward's improved to 2-2.
Turning Point: Through the first five minutes of the game, the lead changed hands as the Patriots took an 8-7 lead on a Shequana Jackson fast-break layup. St. Edward's responded with a Sammie Dufek jumper for the sixth and final lead change of the game as the Hilltoppers scored 26 of the next 31 points to take a 33-13 lead into the final two minutes of the first half.
How It Happened: Taylor Jackson got the UT Tyler offense rolling with a pair of three-pointers in the first three minutes of action, helping the Patriots to a 6-4 lead before Shequana Jackson's fast-break finish with 5:32 left in the quarter pushed UT Tyler in front, 8-7, for its final lead of the game. St. Edward's closed out the quarter with a 9-3 run and outscored the Patriots by a 19-8 margin in the second quarter.
Both teams produced their best shooting percentage of the game in the third quarter, as they combined for 35 points. St. Edward's expanded its 16-point halftime lead by another three points, outsourcing the Patriots, 19-16, in the third, and the Hilltopper defense limited UT Tyler to just two points in the final quarter to close out the 64-37 road win.
UT Tyler Standouts: Taylor Jackson led all scorers with 15 points, knocking down 3-of-7 three-pointers including the pair in the first three minutes of the contest that got UT Tyler off to a good start. Madison Davis was the game's leading rebounder with 9 boards, and Jackson and Shala Robinson led the defensive effort with 2 steals each.
St. Edward's Standouts: Charli Becker scored a team-high 14 points and Christina Mason added 8 points as both players made a pair of three-pointers. Four others scored 7 points each, while Jazmine Jackson pulled down a team-high 7 rebounds for the Hilltoppers.
