TYLER, TEXAS – The Patriots will look to keep the offense going strong against the Falcons after a four goal outburst on Saturday against Texas A&M International. It was their highest output of the season and just enough to take down the Dustdevils.
UT Tyler came into the game on a two game losing streak, with both of those coming as 1-0 defeats. The 4-3 win moves the program to a 3-2-1 record on the season.
The Patriots will take on the UT Permian Basin Falcons this week in a Saturday afternoon contest. The match will take place in Odessa, Texas at 4 p.m. and will be a non-conference matchup.
SERIES HISTORY
The Patriots and Falcons have matched up just twice previously, with both of those contests taking place in Odessa, Texas. Most recently the teams played on February 2, 2021 and played to a 1-1 draw. In that game it was
Ramiro Alvarez scoring for UT Tyler and securing the draw.
SCOUTING OUT THE FALCONS
The Falcons currently sit with a 1-5-2 record overall. They have played just one game at home on the season, a 3-0 loss to Northwest Nazarene.
Leading UT Permian Basin in goals this season is junior forward Gustavo Barroso. Barroso also leads the team in points and shots.
Coaching the Falcons is Dennis Peterson. Peterson is in his 22
nd season of coaching at UT Permian Basin. In his career he was twice named Coach of the Year for the Red River Athletic Conference, and in the Heartland Conference.
AROUND THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
Since Sept. 22, LSC teams have gone a combined 10-10-2. The Sept. 29 slate saw DBU, St. Mary's, West Texas A&M, and Midwestern State all take home victories.
Players of the week for week four are: Offensive- Giancarlo Saldana, West Texas A&M; Defensive- Anthony Perea, West Texas A&M; Goalkeeper- Alexander Knepper, DBU.
AN OFFENSIVE OUTBURST
The matchup against Texas A&M International on Sept. 25 saw the Patriots net four goals, take 20 shots, and tally a total of 12 points, all of which are season highs. In the game, three of those goals were scored in the second half, and two of those were scored by graduate student Sören Wald. Wald now leads the Patriots in goals (3) and points (6) on the season.
WHO'S UP NEXT
Following Saturday's action against UT Permian Basin, UT Tyler will head east to Clinton, Mississippi to take on Mississippi College. It will be a weekday contest for the Patriots as it is set to begin at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 6.
That will be the final non-conference opponent for the Patriots as they will open up conference play on Oct. 9 against UT Permian Basin at Citizens 1
