Box Score LAREDO, TEXAS – The Patriots gave up two second half goals and that proved to be the difference as they go down 2-0 to Texas A&M International.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the first half as both sides did not record a lot of quality chances to score. Both teams combined for 11 shots and just four of those made their way on goal.
One of those shots on goal for the Patriots came just three minutes into the contest.
Sören Wald got his head to the ball on a corner kick, and redirected a shot right at the goalkeeper for the Dustdevils.
The other shot on goal came off of a well-developed play along the right sideline. A string of passes from the Patriots found their way to
Gerardo Ramirez. Ramirez dribbled into the box and set up a give and go with Wald. Ramirez broke free and connected with the pass from Wald but it was stopped with a diving save.
Just eight minutes into the second half, the Dustdevils connected on the first of their two goals on the evening. The play was set up by a flurry of passes on a counter attack. The ball found its way to the left edge of the box and was crossed in by Johan Portales. On the other end of the cross was Gabriel Gacovicaj who placed a header that found the left post and fell into the net just past a diving
Mathias Eriksen.
The Dustdevils waited 15 minutes before connecting on their final goal of the contest. The play was set up by Jacob Restrepo hitting a hard shot that found the crossbar and bounced right into the lap of Kristian Colaci who was able to head it into the net.
The Patriots could not break through in the second half, mustering up just two shots in the period to the Dustdevils eight. The final strong attempt came in the 83
rd minute of the match as Ramirez headed a pass from a throw-in right at the goal. That shot just glanced off the post and ended up in the arms of the goalkeeper.
