Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Dalton Johnson

Davis’s 26 points not quite enough as Patriots fall to Henderson State 73-65.

UT Tyler battled it out all game long, but the fourth quarter push from Henderson State was enough to take down the Patriots.

TYLER, TEXAS – The Patriots and the Reddies battled it out to an 11-11 tie in the first quarter, and a 35-35 tie at the half. Henderson State held a two point lead at the end of the third quarter, but the Reddies outscored the Patriots 22-16 in the final quarter to distance themselves to a win.

The Patriots ran out to a 7-0 start on the Reddies through four and a half minutes, playing good defense and scoring six points in the paint. The Reddies stormed back and tied things up with a late three pointer by Sonni Martin.

It took just three minutes for both teams to equal their first quarter production, as each team upped the tempo and shotmaking.

Liah Davis and Destini Whitehead each got the offense going, combining for 15 of the 24 points scored by the Patriots in the second quarter. Henderson State relied on timely three-point shooting, as they went 5-7 in the quarter to stay in the game.

The third quarter was another tightly contested period. Davis scored six points in the quarter, and Whitehead and Enisa Kamerolli each added in four points of their own to keep pace with the Reddies.

In the ending period, the Patriots couldn't slow down the Reddies offense as they shot 10-16 from the floor in the quarter to put away UT Tyler late in the contest.

Henderson State shot 44.4% from deep in the contest to 25% for the Patriots. The Reddies held the advantage in bench points, points off turnovers, and second chance points.

The Patriots continue to be dominant in the paint, outscoring Henderson State 44-30 in that category.

Davis led the Patriots in points and rebounds with 26 and 14, respectively. Davis added another three blocks which will raise her total to five through two games. Whitehead added an additional 13 points and Kamerolli scored 11 in the contest.

Whitehead and Montse Gutierrez led UT Tyler with three assists apiece. Gutierrez was also second on the team in rebounds, with seven.

The Patriots will step back on the court on Wednesday Nov. 24 as they host the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders for a weekday non-conference game. That game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. tipoff and will be the final home game for UT Tyler until Dec. 16 against UAFS.
