TYLER, TEXAS - The Patriots will return to the court for the first time in just over two weeks as they head to Wichita Falls, Texas to take on the Mustangs in a non-conference battle.
ON A RUN
UT Tyler has trotted out to a 4-1 record through their first five games thanks to a three game winning streak where the average margin of victory has been 12.3 points. The Patriots are also averaging 77.66 points per game during the winning streak.
The Patriots took down Southern Arkansas at home before heading to Commerce, Texas for the Lion Hoopsgiving tournament where they added two additional wins against Northeastern State and Arkansas-Monticello.
SERIES HISTORY
The Patriots and Mustangs have faced off five times previously, and all of those matchups have come in the last three years. Midwestern State holds a 5-0 record in those contests, and all but one of those games have been played in Wichita Falls, Texas.
THE SCOUTING REPORT
Midwestern State is 5-2 on the season and they are riding a three game winning streak of their own coming into the contest. The Mustangs are averaging 71.1 points per game but they are giving up 73.4 points per game to their opponents. They are shooting 42.7% from the field and 29.1% from beyond the arc so far this year.
The Mustangs are led by sophomore Frances King. She is averaging 17.4 points per contest and adding 4.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game.
Coaching Midwestern State is Christopher Reay. He is in his second season as head coach and his 12
th season on the Mustangs bench. He boasts a record of 20-15 over his three year tenure due to a pair of Covid-19 shortened seasons.
A FIRST IN PROGRAM HISTORY
The Patriots have started hot, and are getting recognition amongst the South Central Region poll. UT Tyler is ranked 9
th in the most recent poll, and that is a first in program history. With a continued strong season, the Patriots could find themselves with a little bit more history. In the South Central Region, the two automatic qualifiers plus the next six highest ranked teams in the regional rankings will make it to the NCAA Tournament.
ON THE HORIZON
After Monday's contest, the Patriots will head back to the Herrington Patriot Center for a game on Thursday and then another on Saturday. On Thursday, they will take on UAFS and tipoff will be at 5 p.m. On Saturday, the Patriots will host Oklahoma Christian, and tipoff will be at 2 p.m.
Following the two home games, UT Tyler will hit the road to take on Texas Woman's on December 20
th in what will be their final non-conference game of the season.
