Women's Tennis Preps For Two Matches For Home Opener

The UT Tyler women's tennis team hosts LSU Shreveport and Northeastern State on Tuesday

TYLER, TEXAS -- The University of Texas at Tyler women's tennis team hosts a pair of matches Tuesday at the Summers Tennis Center, taking on LSU Shreveport at 11:00 a.m. and Northeastern State at 4:00 p.m.

The Patriots are off to a 6-2 start this spring, and Tuesday's matches mark the return of Patriot tennis to the Summers Tennis Center for the first time in nearly two years. Last year, UT Tyler was just one week away from its first home matches when the season was halted and eventually cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

AS OF LATE

UT Tyler rallied for a 4-3 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State on March 10, winning 4 of 6 singles matches after losing the doubles point. The Patriots opened the season with 5 consecutive wins before dropping consecutive matches in Wichita Falls to MSU Denver and #14-ranked Southwest Baptist March 5 and 6.

In last week's victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State, all four of the Patriots' singles winners completed their victories in straight sets, as Tanvikhaa Saravanan, Leony Deutschmann, Akshaya Suresh, and Dnyanada Patil all won their individual singles matches to secure the team win for UT Tyler.

Suresh has won 5 consecutive matches in singles, while Patil is 5-0 on the season in singles play.

LOOKING FORWARD

The nine remaining matches on the UT Tyler schedule are all against Lone Star Conference competition, with the exception of an April 9 exhibition match at UTEP. The Patriots' first match against an LSC opponent is March 27 at St. Mary's, and UT Tyler will return home to UAFS and Cameron April 2 and 3 in Tyler.

FINALLY HEADING HOME

UT Tyler won its last match at home, which was a 7-0 victory over East Texas Baptist on March 29, 2019. The Patriots were 1-3 at home in the 2019 season, and the 2020 season was cancelled prior to UT Tyler's first home matches of the shortened 2020 campaign.
