Box Score TYLER, Texas -- UT Tyler claimed its second consecutive win as the Patriots wrapped up women's tennis non-conference play with a 6-1 victory over Northeastern State in the 2021 home opener. It was the Patriots' first home contest since 2019, as the 2020 season was cancelled a week prior to UT Tyler's scheduled 2020 home opener last year due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In Tuesday's 2021 home opener, the Patriots rolled to a sweep of all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead with the doubles point, as
Chloe Chawner and
Leony Deutschmann teamed up for a 6-0 win at the No. 1 doubles position to lead the sweep.
In singles play, the Patriots claimed 5 of the 6 singles matches, winning 4 of the 5 in straight sets as Chawner won the No. 4 singles match with a 10-2 win in the 10-point super tiebreaker after she split the first two sets.
With the win, UT Tyler improved to 7-2, while Northeastern State dropped to 2-3. The Patriots return to action in 11 days, visiting San Antonio to take on St. Mary's in the first match against a Lone Star Conference foe this spring.
