Early Anaya Goal Negated by #6 DBU in Patriots Final Road Contest of 2021

UT Tyler scored in the seventh minute to build the first advantage over conference frontrunner DBU in a 4-1 loss on Wednesday night in Dallas

TYLER, TEXAS – The University of Tyler at Texas women's soccer team jumped out to an early lead against #6 DBU prior to falling by a 4-1 final score.

Shaylee Anaya took two quick touch passes from Kaycee West and Sarah Flannelly into the DBU box and put the first of two shots for the match for UT Tyler past the opposing keeper to open up that 1-0 lead in the seventh minute of the match. #6 DBU (7-0-0, 3-0-0) answered that early Patriot goal with four unanswered efforts to finish with a 4-1 win for DBU to remain unbeaten on the year.

The early advantage for UT Tyler was the first time DBU has trailed in a Lone Star Conference match in their three wins in league play on the year. DBU most recently defeated SEC foe LSU by a 2-1 final tally prior to Wednesday's meeting with the Patriots.

DBU answered the early goal for UT Tyler with their first goal of the match in the 20th minute to move the score to a 1-1 tie entering the halftime break. DBU then went on to post three more goals in the final 90 minutes of action.

DBU outshot the Patriots by a 23-to-2 margin for the match while Patriot keeper Camri Cecil totaled saves on four of the shot on goal attempts.

Jordan Colbert produced the other Patriot shot on goal effort for UT Tyler in the 80th minute.

The Patriots will return home to Tyler for their final two matches of an abbreviated 2021 spring schedule. The first of those two matches will serve as a non-conference match against Texas A&M-Commerce in a game that was rescheduled for Mar. 20 after the first match between the two sides was moved to Commerce, Texas back on Feb. 24.

The latter of those two contests will serve as senior night on Mar. 31 against Oklahoma Christian at Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.
