DENTON, TEXAS – A golden goal in the 99
th minute put an end to a solid overall defensive output for UT Tyler in a 1-0 loss at Texas Woman's on Saturday night.
The Patriots allowed just four shot on goal attempts up until the first few minutes of the overtime period before the fifth shot on target attempt for Texas Woman's found the back of the net and finally broke the scoreless match.
Kaycee West had two of the four shot on goal attempts for the Patriots in the contest while
Maya Dossing got the start in goal for UT Tyler and made four saves throughout the contest.
UT Tyler totaled 11 shots in the contest while Texas Woman's notched 12.
Sydnee Garner tallied the lone first half shot on goal attempt for the Patriots in the 38
th minute of the contest on an effort that didn't provide much trouble for the Pioneer keeper to keep the game scoreless heading into the halftime break.
West provided two of the best chances for the Patriots in the second half with a pair of shots.
The first of those chances came in the 75
th minute as West beat a Pioneer defender down the sideline and cut back in front of the opposing goal to put a shot on attempt that was well-struck, but right at the Pioneer keeper. The final chance for the Patriots came with just over two minutes remaining in regular time as
Shaylee Anaya beat her defender down the sideline and put a shot on net that was deflected off of a sliding Pioneer keeper and bounced out to the feet of West.
West's shot off the rebound was deflected by a Pioneer defender in front of the net to negate the final scoring chance for the Patriots in regular time. UT Tyler had a pair of shots in the overtime period before the golden goal from Texas Woman's ended the contest at the 98:33 mark.
The Patriots will cap off their abbreviated 2021 spring season on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at home against Oklahoma Christian.
