Patriots Finish Regular Season On Winning Note

UT Tyler matched its single-game scoring high in a 3-0 shutout victory over Oklahoma Christian Wednesday afternoon

TYLER, Texas -- UT Tyler closed out the regular season on a winning note, claiming a 3-0 win over Oklahoma Christian to tie its single-game season high scoring effort.

The Patriots converted an early scoring chance in the first half into a 1-0 lead when Kiersten Ehler's cross intended for Kaycee West was instead deflected by a defender past the Oklahoma Christian goalkeeper for an own goal in the 18th minute.

West extended the lead just over six minutes into the second half by gathering a high bouncing ball and splitting a pair of Eagle defenders for a clean look at the goal from just to the left of the penalty spot. West directed the ball to the right side of the net past the keeper to make it a 2-0 lead, and Ashlynn Thomas added an 84th-minute penalty kick to complete the 3-0 victory.

Camri Cecil and Maya Dossing shared goalkeeper duties, coming up with 8 total saves in the combined shutout. Cecil made 5 saves and Dossing made 3 as they faced 16 shots from Oklahoma Christian, which generated a 16-13 edge in total shots. Both teams finished with 8 shots on goal.

Seven different players registered a shot attempt for the Patriots, with six players recording 2 shots each. West's goal was her first of the season and 11th of her career, while Thomas' PK conversion was her first career goal.

With the win, UT Tyler improved to 2-6 overall and 1-5 in LSC play, while Oklahoma Christian dropped to 1-6-2 overall and 0-4-2 in the LSC. The Patriots secured sixth place in their seven-team division, which sets up a first-round matchup on the road against the third-place team in the division on Saturday, April 3.
