CLINTON, Miss. -- The UT Tyler men's tennis team opened up a two-match road trip with a 7-0 win over Mississippi College Friday morning.
The Patriots won all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point and then swept all six singles matches, including four in straight sets.
Jan Lucca Marquardt (No. 1 singles) and
Moritz Mayer (No. 5 singles) both split their first two sets before winning a third-set 10-point super tiebreaker to complete the 7-0 victory.
Gonzalo Fernandez Gil (No. 3) and
Jonas Dixon (No. 6) each won 12 of 14 games as Fernandez Gil posted a 6-0, 6-2 win while Dixon claimed his singles victory, 6-2, 6-0.
Egor Shestakov (No. 2) and
Yudai Watanabe (No. 4) both won by identical scores of 6-2, 6-2.
Up next for UT Tyler is a Saturday, March 20 date with No. 5-ranked West Florida in Pensacola, where the Patriots meet the 5-1 Argonauts, who just posted an impressive 4-3 win at home over No. 4 University of Indianapolis (UIndy). West Florida won last year's first-ever meeting with UT Tyler, 6-1.
