#6 UT Tyler Jumps Atop Lone Star Conference Standings With Convincing Wins over #24 Angelo State

The Patriots took command early in 7-1 and 8-0 wins over #24 Angelo State to notch the teams's fourth and fifth wins over top-25 ranked opponents this year

TYLER, TEXAS - #6 UT Tyler took commanding leads in both games to secure top-25 wins over #24 Angelo State by 7-1 and 8-0 final scores on Friday afternoon.

UT Tyler scored five runs in the first in game number one and four in the first trip to the plate in game number two to pad early leads and never looked back in either contest, moving to 14-0 in Lone Star Conference play. The Patriots tallied 11 hits in both games, and ended the second game by way of run rule thanks to a near flawless outing in the circle by starter Erin Hill.

Hill allowed just one hit, an infield single in the top of the fourth inning, and walked just one batter to allow just a pair of base runners for the complete game shutout in game number two to move her season record to 11-1 on the year. Hill combined with her starting comrade Payton Foster to allow just five hits throughout the two games to a Rambelle offense that entered the day with a team average of .330 from the plate, fourth best in the Lone Star Conference this year.

The Patriot starters all but shutdown that offense, striking out 14 batters for the day while allowing just a single earned run, a solo homer to lead off the top of the seventh for Angelo State, that proved to be irrelevant to the quality body of work for Foster in game one.

UT Tyler set the tone in that game one victory in the first inning, batting through the lineup and using a pair of RBI doubles from Amanda Marek and Serena Saldivar in consecutive at bats to open up a big lead to start off the meeting between two of the Lone Star Conference's best at Suddenlink Field. Marek drove in Ashley Perez and Haleigh Swinney to start off the scoring for UT Tyler in a frame in which the Patriots totaled five runs on five hits to break open a 5-0 lead.

Kyla Mach scored the fourth run of that frame on a sacrifice fly to centerfield that scored Saldivar from third. Tristin Anders finished off the scoring in that inning with an RBI infield single that scored Courtney Plocheck and got Rambelle starter Genesis Armendariz out of the game without getting through one inning of work in the circle.

Foster retired the first nine batters she faced in order to open up her complete game outing as a two-run homer from Perez in the third to left field finished up the scoring for UT Tyler for the contest. Angelo State loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth, but a Foster induced flyout ended the threat to keep the Patriots firmly ahead 7-0.

The solo homer by the Rambelles to lead off the seventh took nothing away from Foster's continued elite work in the circle as the Lufkin, Texas native has allowed just two earned runs in her last seven starts.

Hill continued to keep the potent Rambelle offense in check throughout the second contest of the day, striking out the first five batters she faced while also reaping the benefits of a Patriot offense that got started early and often in the second game. The UT Tyler lineup notchedthree singles in the first four at bats for the club, capped off by a Marek single that scored Hanna Fradkin.

Plocheck cleared the bases on a double to left center with two outs and the bases loaded to notch the final three runs of the inning for the Patriots, once again opening up a sizeable advantage at 4-0 for UT Tyler after their first trip to the plate. Hill kept the perfect game moving after those five strikeouts to open the ball game into the top of the fourth before the infield single gave Angelo State their only hit of the contest.

Hill nearly struckout over half of the batters she faced in her five full innings of work prior to the run rule coming into effect, totaling nine strikeouts of the 17 batters that came to the plate for Angelo State. Three runs in the bottom of the third on a two-RBI single up the middle by pinch hitter Avery Farr and an advancement home by Tristin Anders on a caught stealing attempt by Shelby Hughston at second put the Patriots in position to enact the run rule in the bottom of the fifth for the second contest in a row.

Fradkin scored Bayli Simon on her third run scored of the contest in the bottom of that fifth inning to walk off an impressive overall performance for the Patriots with a single to leftfield.

Fradkin's walk-off single to end it gave her a fourth hit on the day, joining Perez with a team-high four hits for the day. Perez went 3-for-3 in game number one and scored three times between the two contests.

Plocheck led the squad with four RBI on the day, totaling three in game number two, and went 3-for-5 from the plate.

The Patriots hit .431 for the day as a club, totaling 15 runs on their 22 hits.

UT Tyler now sits alone at the top of the Lone Star Conference standings as #2 Texas A&M-Commerce dropped the second game of their doubleheader this afternoon against Lubbock Christian. The Patriots will have a chance their chance against Lubbock Christian on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader against the Lady Chaps scheduled to get started at noon.
