Men’s Tennis Earns Friday Split

The UT Tyler men’s tennis team bounced back from a 4-1 defeat to #25 Southern Arkansas by beating MSU Denver, 4-3

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- After falling to NCAA Division II's No. 25-ranked Southern Arkansas in Friday's morning match, the UT Tyler men's tennis team outlasted MSU Denver for a 4-3 win in a match that lasted over 6 hours to close out a grueling day.
 
The Patriots picked up the doubles point against Southern Arkansas, but after losing the doubles point against MSU Denver, UT Tyler had to win 4 of the 6 singles matches. That's exactly what they did, picking up the win to improve to 2-4 on the season heading into a Saturday afternoon matchup against Southwest Baptist (Mo.).

Although Southern Arkansas won by a 4-1 margin, it took three sets in all four singles matches after the Patriots claimed the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 in the doubles lineup. The Muleriders won the opening set in 3 of the top 4 spots in the singles lineup, and all four of those matches went three sets as the Patriots challenged the No. 25-ranked Muleriders throughout the singles lineup.

UT Tyler turned the tables on MSU Denver after the Roadrunners claimed the doubles point. The Patriots won 4 of the singles matches, claiming victories at No. 1, No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6, including a trio of 3-set victories to conclude a long day of action. Egor Shestakov claimed his win at No. 2 in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, but Jan Lucca Marquardt bounced back from a 3-set singles defeat against Southern Arkansas with a 3-set win at the No. 1 singles position. Moritz Mayer and Jonas Dixon also claimed 3-set victories to secure the team win for the Patriots.
