Box Score TYLER, Texas -- UT Tyler was one match away from a signature win on Saturday, but the Patriots came up just short in a 4-3 defeat to No. 17-ranked Midwestern State.
The Patriots won the No. 2 doubles match but lost the doubles point, and the 6 singles matches produced a 3-3 split as the Mustangs held on for the narrow road win over UT Tyler, which had won four consecutive matches entering Saturday's matchup.
Chloe Dix and
Chloe Chawner claimed a 6-4 win at No. 2 doubles, but Midwestern State earned the doubles point with a 6-0 win at the top of the doubles lineup and a 6-4 decision at the No. 3 spot.
Midwestern State won the No. 1, No. 2, and No. 5 singles matches in straight sets to secure the team match win while overcoming UT Tyler's singles victories from
Leony Deutschmann (No. 3),
Akshaya Suresh (No. 4), and
Eva Riekenbrauck (No. 6).
UT Tyler is now 11-4 overall and 4-2 in Lone Star Conference play, while Midwestern State improved to 11-6 overall and 7-1 in the LSC.
UT Tyler is scheduled to finish the season at home with a makeup match against Dallas Baptist on a date to be determined, along with regularly-scheduled matches next weekend against Angelo State (April 23) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (April 24).
