TYLER, TEXAS – The UT Tyler women's tennis team will wrap up play in the 2021 season this weekend with a pair of matches on Saturday and Sunday against Texas A&M-Kingsville and #12 Angelo State at the Summers Tennis Center.
The Patriots have the ability to complete a postponed match against DBU from Apr. 15 should scheduling allow it, but will have two more opportunities to improve their 4-2 record in Lone Star Conference matches this weekend. The Patriots are 11-4 overall on the year, and were one point away from a win over no. 17 Midwestern State last weekend at the Summers Tennis Center.
This weekend's match against Texas A&M-Kinsgville is scheduled for a noon start, and Sunday's rescheduled match from Friday due to projected inclement weather in the area is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning.
LAST TIME OUT
UT Tyler hung tough against nationally-ranked Midwestern State last weekend, losing the doubles points and splitting the singles points to fall by a 4-3 margin.
Chloe Dix and
Chloe Chawner picked up the doubles win for the Patriots while
Leony Deutschmann,
Akshaya Suresh and
Eva Riekenbrauck all won their singles matches.
A LOOK AT THE STANDINGS
UT Tyler currently sits in fourth place in the Lone Star Conference standings, two wins back of St. Mary's, who sits in third with a record of 6-1. As mentioned, DBU and UT Tyler will continue a postponed match from last Friday that was halted due to weather with the match tied at 1-1 if scheduling allows it.
Angelo State is undefeated in league play with a record of 8-0, while Midwestern State currently sits in second place with a record of 7-1.
SCOUTING THE JAVELINAS
Texas A&M-Kingsville enters Saturday's match with a record of 4-3 in conference play and a 7-6 overall record on the season. The Javelinas have won four straight entering Saturday's match with the Patriots, and haven't lost a match since Apr. 8.
Maya Donkor has won her last three matches at the singles no. 1 position and enters the weekend with a record of 6-6 on the year. Milou ter Morsche has played the majority of her matches at the singles no. 5 position and is 8-6 on the year.
SCOUTING THE RAMBELLES
The Rambelles enter the weekend ranked no. 12 in the Oracle/ITA Division II women's rankings and have compiled an overall record of 13-3 in 2021. Angelo State has been dominant in every LSC match of the year aside from the 4-3 win over #17 Midwestern State, having defeated every other conference foe by at least a 5-2 margin.
Valentina Gonzalez is ranked no. 13 in singles across Division II, and has posted a 12-5 record in singles play this season to lead the Rambelles.
